True Blood is a supernatural, horror and fantasy series that premiered in September’ 2008. The series is adapted from The Southern Vampire Mysteries novel series which was penned by Charlaine Harris and was developed by Alan Ball for the HBO network. True Blood has received a great response from the audience (IMDB rating of 7.9) and its past seasons have won Golden Globe, Emmy, Saturn and Satellite awards. The series has been renewed for a seventh season which would be broadcast in 2014.

True Blood Storyline And Plot

True Blood is set in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana and depicts a world where humans and vampires co-exist. It is revealed that the co-existence is made possible due to the invention of “Tru Blood”, a type of synthetic blood created by Japanese scientists. The series focuses on the life of Sookie Stackhouse (portrayed by Anna Paquin), a halfling (Human-Fairy hybrid) with telepathic powers. When Sookie meets Bill (Stephen Moyer), a mysterious person who also happens to be a vampire, she is thrust into a strange and supernatural world.

True Blood Availability

True Blood is telecast on Sunday nights on the HBO Channel. The past seasons and the latest episodes of the series are also available online through the HBO’s streaming service, HBO Go. However, since HBO Go is not available outside United States, fans of True Blood cannot watch the series’ episodes online when they try to access them from a different country. People trying to watch True Blood from a non-US country come across the message – “To access HBOGo, you must reside within the fifty states of the United States of America”. As it can be imagined, these location based restrictions can prove incredibly frustrating for the fans of the show, including frequent fliers and expats, who are located abroad.

How HBO Blocks Access To True Blood

HBO cannot allow viewers from non-US countries to watch True Blood episodes online since the broadcasting rights for the show outside US are held by other networks and content providers (NT1 in France, RTL II in Germany, Fox in UK and Ireland etc.). To honor the content sharing agreements, HBO scans the IP address of its visitors and allows only those who have a valid US IP address to watch the episodes. The international audience having non-US IP addresses are simply redirected to the Content Unavailable page.

In order to unlock True Blood from anywhere, you must get a US IP address from IP changing services like proxies or VPNs. This will fake your location and allow you to access all the features of HBO Go’s service that are normally restricted only for US users. Although proxies are available at a very cheap price, we recommend that you use a VPN to access the HBO Go service since VPNs offer blazing fast speeds and also protect your real IP address and location at all times.

How To Unlock True Blood From Outside of US With A VPN

Step 1: Register with a VPN service offering US based IP addresses. For unblocking True Blood episodes, check the high speed and unrestricted bandwidth plans from HideMyAssInvisible BrowsingOverplay, and proXPN. Each of these providers is well-known for its VPN service and provides IP addresses from several US cities.

Step 2: Download/install the VPN client or configure the service manually by creating a new VPN connection. For mobile devices like Smartphones and Tablets, custom VPN clients are usually not available so you need to configure the service manually.

Step 3: Apply the changes and save the new network configuration. You may even have to restart your system if you installed the software provided by your VPN vendor. For mobile devices, you also need to close and restart the HBO GO app so that it can use the latest networking parameters.

Step 4: Initiate the VPN connection by tapping the Connect option or clicking on VPN icon. Depending on the current location and speed provided by your ISP, it could take few minutes for the new service to establish a connection.

Step 5: Once the connection is established, check your new IP address by using an IP checking service. If the new IP is from a non-US country, search for a US based server on your provider’s site (or refer to welcome email) and use it as your VPN server. Most VPN vendors have servers at various locations so you might have to change the server manually if the default VPN server happens to be located outside US. Also, remember to choose a server that is located closest to your current city so that you get the best browsing and streaming speeds.

Step 6: Visit the HBO Go site again and click on True Blood episode titles in order to unlock them. To watch the episodes on your tablet or Smartphone, remember to close and restart the HBO Go app after you change your IP address. You can now watch your favorite True Blood episodes from any location in the world.
