The Amazing Race is an extremely popular reality game show that premiered in September’ 2001. The series was developed by Elise Doganieri and Bertram van Munster for the CBS channel and is hosted by Phil Keoghan since its inception. The Amazing Race has received a great response from the viewers (IMDB rating of 7.5) and the show has inspired several international versions and even a video game. The show’s past editions have won multiple awards, including PrimeTime Emmy award for “Outstanding Reality-Competition Program” 13 times, which makes it one of the best reality shows on air.

The Amazing Race Premise and Plot

Each season of The Amazing Race consists of 12 teams with 2 members each who race around the world to win the grand prize of one million dollars. The team members from each team have some form of personal relationship and they work together under intense pressure to arrive first at the “Pit Stops” during each leg of the race. Each phase of the race provides clues to the next destination and may even assign tasks to one or both the team members. The contestants travel through multiple countries in bicycles, cars, cabs, buses, trucks, trains, airplanes, helicopters, hot air balloons, boats and even by foot to avoid coming last which may result in elimination. The team completing the final leg (involving the final 3 teams) first wins the race and the grand prize.

The Amazing Race Availability

The Amazing Race is broadcast exclusively on the CBS channel. The show is also available for online viewing through the official CBS portal (cbs.com/shows/amazing_race). However, the online version of The Amazing Race series is available only to US residents due to content licensing restrictions. When international viewers try to access the show’s episodes online, they just come across the message – “The video you have requested is not available for your geographic region”. As you can imagine, such location based restrictions severely limit the entertainment options available to expats, tourists and US students who are studying abroad since they are not able to watch their favorite shows once they are overseas.

How CBS Blocks The Amazing Race Outside US

CBS blocks access to The Amazing Race online since it does not own the rights to broadcast the show outside United States. Due to the content sharing agreements signed between CBS and other content providers, CBS must prevent international viewers from accessing the show online. This is done by checking the IP address of each visitor visiting the CBS portal and allowing only people with US IP addresses to access the show’s episodes.

To unblock The Amazing Race from overseas, you need to use an IP changing service that can provide you with US IP addresses. While both proxies and VPNs can help you to change your IP address, VPNs have the privacy and speed advantage which makes them well-suited for unlocking streaming services online.

How To Unlock The Amazing Race Outside US With A VPN

Step 1: Subscribe to a US VPN plan available from reputed vendors like ExpressVPN, IPVanish, HideMyAss, Kepard or Overplay. These providers are renowned for their VPN service and they can provide you with US IPs from multiple US cities.

Step 2: Once you receive the welcome email from your VPN provider, configure the service on your laptop, desktop, Smartphone or tablet. A lot of providers offer custom clients for Windows based systems but other OS’ would require manual configuration of the service. Although the manual configuration of a VPN is extremely simple, make sure to refer to the setup guide available for your device and Operating system.

Step 3: Save and apply the network configuration. You may also have to reboot your machine if it is recommended by your VPN provider (or if you installed the custom client on your system). For Smartphones and tablets, it is sufficient to save the changes but your must remember to close and then restart the CBS app so that it can use the new network configuration.

Step 4: After the setup is complete, test the service by clicking on the desktop icon or tapping the Connect button on your mobile screen. The connection time is dependent on the network speed and distance of server from your current location so you may have to wait for few seconds before the service establishes a connection with the VPN server.

Step 5: Once you are connected, verify whether your IP address is from United States. A lot of VPN vendors have got servers in multiple countries so if the default server happens to be from outside US then your must switch to a US server manually. While making the switch, choose a server that is located closest to your current location in order to get the best streaming speeds.

Step 6: Visit the CBS portal again and click on The Amazing Race episode names in order to unlock them. In case you are not able to watch the videos on your mobile screen, make sure to close and restart the CBS app after changing your IP address. You should now be able to watch the latest episodes of The Amazing Race from any region in the world.
