Google Play is a digital distribution service and online store selling Android apps, e-books, songs, magazines, movies, TV shows as well as hardware for Google devices. The service was launched as Android marketplace in October, 2008 and rechristened as Google Play in March, 2012 after Google decided to merge Android marketplace with Google Music and Google eBookstore. Google Play now boasts of more than one million apps which have been downloaded more than 50 billion times making it one of the biggest digital markets on the web.

Google Play Availability

Even though Google Play store is available from all countries, the content and feature availability varies from one country to another. In general, customers can buy apps from most places whereas the availability of other media such as music, movies, TV shows and e-books is dependent on digital rights management and copyright agreement rules set by publishers and copyright owners. By far, the American customers have access to the biggest media collection and most features and they also get to store up to 20,000 songs and rent movies through the service. In addition, access to Google’s All Access digital music service is also restricted to US and a handful of other countries. However, the content availability is not the same across regions; for instance, the songs and movies available within US may not be available to UK customers, and so on.

To determine the location of its visitors and customers, Google relies on their IP address. In case the IP address of the visitor is from US, he/she is allowed to access all features and vast collection of digital media. International customers are simply redirected to the Google Play version of their respective countries.

To bypass GEO-IP restrictions imposed by Google, you need to change IP address and get a US based IP so that Google thinks that you are accessing the site from within USA. This can be achieved by using proxies and VPNs which are considered as the best and cheapest IP changing options. Even though proxies can be used for the job, they may leak your true IP address so use of a VPN is recommended to access services like Google Play where concealing IP address is really important. In addition, you must provide a US based address to Google to access US version of All Access service but it is not mandatory to use a credit card with US billing address to make your purchase.

How To Unlock US Version of Google Play From Outside USA With A VPN

Step 1: Register with a VPN service which offers US based IP addresses. For unlocking US version of Google Play store, we recommend using StrongVPNBolehVPNOverplay, and IPVanish  since these service providers deliver excellent speed and privacy at very cheap rates.

Step 2: After the registration is complete, download and install the VPN software (if available) or configure the service manually by creating a new VPN connection. Make sure to input correct userid, password and server details while creating the connection so that you don’t face connection errors later. Most VPN providers do not provide VPN apps for mobile devices so you would need to configure the service manually in case you want to access Google Play through your mobile device.

Step 3: Save the network changes and reboot the system if necessary. The rebooting step is not necessary for Smartphones and tablets, however you must close and restart Google Play app in order to unlock its features.

Step 4: Connect to the VPN service that you just configured by clicking on VPN connection name or by tapping the Connect button. Since the connection time depends on your network speed and current location, it could take few minutes for the VPN to establish the connection with its default server.

Step 5: Once the connection is established, check the location of your new IP address. If it is not from United States then you must search for a US based server and use it as your VPN server. Most VPN providers, including the vendors listed above, have VPN servers at multiple locations so it becomes essential to change the server manually. Also, remember to pick a US based server that is located closest to your current location so that you get best browsing speeds.

Step 6: Connect to the Google Play website again and check whether you are able to access the full selection of music, songs, movies, TV shows, e-books and other restricted features. To unlock the site from your mobile device, close and restart the Google Play app after you have changed your IP address. Congratulations, you can now access the full version (US version) of Google Play from any nation in the world.
