The X Factor is an extremely popular talent and reality show where music performers compete for a £1 million recording contract. The show, which made its debut in September, 2004, is the brainchild of Simon Cowell and helped establish the X Factor franchise. The X Factor also happens to be the biggest talent hunt show in Europe and attracts thousands of auditionees and millions of viewers on TV (peak of 200,000 auditionees and 19+ million viewers in UK). The past seasons of the show have won British Comedy and National Television awards and the series has been renewed for its tenth season.
The X Factor Plot
The X Factor contestants are split into several groups; 16-28 Males, 16-28 Females, Over 28 and Group singing. The aspirants have to go through a series of auditions before they become eligible to participate in the final rounds. The new season kick-starts with the Producers’ auditions stage (untelevised) which decides the auditionees for the Judges’ audition stage. The contestants who get a thumbs up during the Judges’ audition stage participate in a bootcamp where the judges get to act as mentors. The successful contestants from the bootcamp stage share an accommodation (known as the Judges’ house stage) to prepare for the live show stage. The final round features live performances from the contestants and the eventual winner is decided by pooling the judges’ and audience votes.
The X Factor Availability
The new season of The X Factor is usually broadcast from September to December on British TV channel iTV. The past seasons and the latest episodes of the show are also available for online viewing through the iTV portal and iTV Player app. However, the content delivered through iTV website is not available outside United Kingdom so fans of the series, including expats and travelers, would not be able to watch the latest episodes in case they are outside UK. Even if someone tries to access X-Factor videos online from outside UK, he/she will merely see the message – “The video is only available to be viewed within the United Kingdom.”
How iTV Blocks Access To The X Factor
iTV denies access to The X Factor outside UK since it has signed content sharing agreements with other broadcasting networks. To implement these location based restrictions, iTV scans the IP address of its visitors and allows only people with a UK based IP address to access the episodes. People having a non-UK IP address are simply redirected to the Content Unavailable page.
Since your IP address plays a crucial role in disclosing your location to iTV, you need to change it and get a UK IP address in order to unblock The X Factor episodes from overseas. There are several renowned proxy and VPN companies that provide IP changing services and allow you to get a UK IP from almost anywhere. While proxies have the price advantage, it is advisable to use VPNs for accessing streaming services like iTV Player since they can deliver top grade privacy and blazing fast speeds.
How To Unlock The X Factor Outside UK With A VPN
Step 1: Get a VPN subscription from a vendor that offers UK based IP addresses. To unlock The X Factor episodes, we recommend signing up with StrongVPN, HideMyAss, IPVanish, and proXPN since these companies deliver a top notch UK VPN service.
Step 2: Create a new VPN connection on your computer or mobile device and input your login credentials. A lot of providers also offer custom VPN client for PCs and laptops (mostly for Windows but sometimes also for Mac and Linux) which makes it incredibly easy to setup the service.
Step 3: Save the network configuration and restart your system if necessary (not applicable for mobile devices). Also, remember to close and start the iTV Player app on your mobile device once you have saved the new settings.
Step 4: Connect to the newly configured Virtual private Network by clicking or tapping on the connection name. Depending on your current location and ISP speed, you might have to wait for few seconds before the connection with the default server is established.
Step 5: Choose a United Kingdom based VPN server if the default server happens to be from some other country. The vendors listed above have servers at multiple locations so you may have to change your server manually. In case the vendor has multiple servers in UK, choose a server closest to your address to get optimum browsing and streaming speeds.
Step 6: Visit the iTV Player again and check whether you are able to watch The X Factor episodes. In case you wish to unlock the episodes on a mobile device, close and restart the iTV Player app after you have changed your IP address. In case you cannot access the videos, make sure to contact the support staff of your VPN company. Congratulations, you are now in a position to watch the latest episodes of The X Factor from any place on the earth.
